Giant galactic nebula NGC3603
Showing the various stages of the
life cycle of stars.

Image of one of the most complex planetary nebulae ever seen, nicknamed the "Cat's Eye Nebula."

Neptune Rising: Giant storms in the atmosphere of Neptune are visible in this August, 1989 image from Voyager 2. Read more about humanity's exploration of our solar system in Andrew Chaikin's special report. Credit: NASA

The Arms of Orion: An infrared image of the Orion nebula. At the center of the image is the Trapezium, a group of four bright stars. Many stars seen around the Trapezium are young stars embedded in the molecular cloud located behind the Orion nebula. Credit: Subaru Telescope, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan

Twisted: This pair of one-half light-year long interstellar 'twisters' - eerie funnels and twisted-rope structures - were discovered in the heart of the Lagoon Nebula, 5,000 light years from Earth. CREDIT: NASA/ Hubble Space Telescope, 1998.

NGC 2346 is a planetary nebula, which is ejected from some Sun-like stars near the ends of their lives. The nebula is remarkable because its central star is actually a very close pair of stars that orbit each other every 16 days.
